Oregon Coalition of Police and Sheriffs Association Launched
A New Voice for Law Enforcement

(January 22, 2015— Portland, OR) -A new organization launched today to provide a voice for Oregon law enforcement officers. The Oregon Council of Police and Sheriffs (ORCOPS) is comprised of the members of the Portland Police Association, Multnomah County Sheriffs Association, Clackamas County Sheriffs Association, Washington County Sheriffs Association, and Troutdale Police Association. The association is open to any Oregon law enforcement officers.

ORCOPS will work on public policy issues that impact law enforcement in Oregon and will also connect Oregonians to the role they play in keeping our communities safe. The formation comes at a time when Police are under deeper scrutiny in the wake of Ferguson.

“Our goal is to provide a voice for Oregon law enforcement and develop a greater sense of community respect for these officers who put their lives on the line every day,” said Daryl Turner, President of ORCOPS and of the Portland Police Association.

ORCOPS aims to serve as a place of leadership and build trust not only within law enforcement, but also between law enforcement officers and the communities where they serve.

To help start that engagement, ORCOPS launched a Facebook and Twitter account today Learn more at facebook.com/orcops.
